The Nilgiri region lies in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu and the Nilgiris are part of the Western Ghats that run along the western coast of the peninsula. The district gets its name” Nilgiri” from the saxe-blue kurinji flowers that bloom in every 12 years here. The place is popular for the wildlife and flora are seen here, and it’s another claim to fame is its tea. The tea from Nilgiri is better known to some as the ‘Third Cousin’ in terms of popularity, and coming behind Assam and Darjeeling. However, these teas are finding their consumers more and more, and among them are the people from North American who find in the tea, a perfect balance of color, astringency, and strength to meet the needs of each tea drinker, be it a tea novice or connoisseur.
All types of tea come from the same basic plant, the Camellia Sinensis plant. The differences between teas arise from processing, growing conditions.
